A Taste of Awadhi Cuisine at Namak Mandi

The name Chef Imtiaz Qureshi will pique your interest and open your culinary buds instantly. I went with the same expectations when I heard about Namak Mandi opening in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. Namak Mandi serves Awadhi cuisine and is known to be famous for its dining experience.

What is Awadhi Cuisine??

Awadhi cuisine is the food that belongs to the land of Newabs i.e. the city of Lucknow. Most of the awadhi cooking is inspired from the Mughals and so the food is rich in texture and taste. After having some of the kebabs and mouthwatering mutton you yourself will feel like a king. The team at Namak Mandi is well versed with the food and suggest you dishes at the drop of a hat. The dining experience itself is one of the best with the exquisite brass ware and glasses.

How was the food??

I started with a plate of Galawati kebabs because Awadhi! No regrets there, they were probably one of the best I’ve had in all of Delhi and therefore belong to the must try category.

Along with the kebab came the Murgh Balai kebabs and Peshawari paneer tikka. Both the dishes were well made and flavorful and the best part was the way they were presented with good chunks of salads and chutneys.

I ordered a Jaljeera with my starters but it wasn’t really to my liking so I would suggest you to skip it. For the main course, the Gosht nihari was my top dish after gelawati kebabs. Along with it were accompaniments of roti and mandi ki dal. Another favorite in the house was the Rampur Biryani that came in a cute wok and was opened with a knife to reveal the inside. The presentation and the drama of it added to the fun dining element.

To satiate my sweet tooth I ordered Narangi Kulfi and Khubani ka meetha in the end. Again both the dishes outsmarted in presentation and were equally delicious.

Would I go back??

Yes. I would love to try a few other sumptuous dishes on the menu such as Chingri Curry and Burrah Kebab.

Damage to the pocket??

INR 1200-1500 for 2 people.
